A Living Magazine - Day 101 - The Times They Are Exchanging

I slept later than I thought I would, getting up at about 9:00 am. I really wanted to get back into the city and take some pictures, visit the library, and get a better idea about the bus system. I repeated my bus ride from the day before...

Burger King for a coffee, and stepping lively.

This is a neat little crab apple tree on the Burger King lawn. The apples are very tart and sweet, with tiny undeveloped seeds, so that once the stem and calyx (bottom) are removed, the entire fruit can be eaten. I found apples that were very similar to these in Salem, Oregon at the Bush park. I'd love to have a sprig of it and grow these as a versatile fruit with less waste.  I picked a bunch, cleaned them and just popped them in my mouth throughout the morning. There were certainly plenty left over...

Am I the only one who thinks that not using the fruit on a fruit tree or bush seems a waste of resources? If I had fruit trees of any edible variety, I would find something to do with the fruit--jams, jellies, juice, fruit wraps, wine, salads, dehydrated, sauces, canned, pickled, or fresh. Why not sell or donate the excess? Apples themselves will last a long time if they are in a cool dark place (if not allowed to freeze), well into the winter. Anyway, hopefully I'm preaching to the choir.

I took the 717 to Robbinsdale and waited for a 14 bus to arrive...

The water tower at the transit center in Robbinsdale.
Ran out of room for cellular repeaters.

When I arrived downtown, the city looked completely different. The clear sky had turned the buildings blue...

I'd like to see this...

The first thing I wanted to do was get to the Minneapolis Central Library and check it out. I've become a bit of a library  connoisseur. It is located at 300 Nicollete Mall (the main cultural vein of the downtown area)...

Looked like a nice enough place. But, I'm used to seeing one lonely library cop, this place seemed to have its own police force. I wondered if they stored riot gear behind the reference section. But, I didn't care about any of that. The outlets are broken on the table. They seem to have been that way for a long time. But, for Pete sake! I myself could fix the these outlets. Hell, I could fix all the outlets on the first floor. It's not tricky work. I'd do it in exchange for a library card.

So, I worked for a while, until my battery was at about 50%, then headed back out to catch the buses back to Plymouth...

Pink ribbon monster tractor?

On the way to the 14 bus stop, there is this gigantic, five story mural dedicated to Bob Dylan...

Apparently, this has been quite a thing.

I reversed buses back to Robbinsdale where I had to wait a half hour for the 717, and then back to Plymouth. The walk to Allyson's was an easy one. It was a good day. I was still four posts behind (the most so far on this journey), but I knew I could still make up for it in the next two days. Actually, this very post is the one that brings us up to date.

I watched TV with my hosts - House, mostly - and stayed up after they went to bed working a little more. But, the time flew by and when I checked my watch it said 3:30 am. I had wanted to leave at 8:00 the next morning. I went to the soft couch and was asleep immediately.
