A Living Magazine - Day 178 - A Short One

I woke, and followed my normal routine of packing up, then headed to my local office (Starbucks) to work for the day.

I got my post up, but was still behind by one. These posts often take me much longer to write than I plan. And, I had rain on the brain, distracting me; worried about storm coming in.

I went back to the China Star and had my daily meal. This time it was all sushi, salad and soup. Very good, healthy and would last for 24 hours.

Today (being written three days in the future), I'm going to do what I've tried to avoid doing for the last six months and leave this post very short. It will give me a chance to move forward  with the next couple days.

When I left the China Star, I witnessed the first evidence of the deluge to come, rolling in from the west and painting a gray sunset...

Arriving back at the entrance to the woods, I had to take a picture of the red/orange sand in this part of Georgia...

It is everywhere. And, it is under the trees where I camp. I was hoping that its hard surface would not create pools in the rain that would come over night and for the whole next day.

I wanted to get a head start on the tent. Being still quite light out, I had to be extra sneaky about slipping into the woods. I'd noticed that the best time to bolt was when both directions of traffic were still in motion--right when the highway light changed. I followed this tactic and was in the woods quickly, without being noticed.

The campsite was much easier to find in the twighlight than at night (obviously), but by this point it didn't really matter. My feet seemed to know the way there.

Interesting to me, is how well I get to know each tree, nook and crannie along the way to sleep spots I've used for several days in a row. It has been suggested that we remember dissimilar things better than similar things, especially if we have an interest in them. Trees and other landmarks can be the same way. Visual memory is my strongest method.

Since I wouldn't get much sleep on this night, I will describe how it went in the next post. Maybe it has also been good for you readers to not have pages and pages to wade through, for once. Thanks for occasionally letting me be short.
