For once I actually woke up on time. I was motivated by the thought of getting a room on this day. I packed up quickly and said a thank you to the place that had protected and sheltered me for over a week...especially the trees.
I was a long walk out to the Super 8. I needed to check with Joyce to make sure the ID thing would work. So I went to Nova*s for a coffee and to wait for the rest of the world to wake up. When I had confirmation I left immediately. I had to laugh as I made my way up Plaza. Joyce had said that the Super 8 manager called me a "celebrity." As I would find out, this manager had been following me all the way from Athens!
As frequently happens when I plan out to route to somewhere, it gets messed up. I hit construction and a detour about midway to my destination. So, I took it and ended up on Tryon. I knew I wasn't far, but my screen shot didn't have the word "Tryon" on any street. So I went to a Burger King and checked online. Sure enough, Tryon was also Route 29. Of course! That was good because it would lead practically all the way to the motel...
Never even heard about any of this.
Finally I got to the road that runs off of Tryon to the motel. And, when I saw that "8" in the sky I knew I'd be able to shower and shave. As soon as I walked into the lobby the manager said, "Alex?" That was nice for a change; to be recognized. I paid and we talked for a little while. Her name was Latasha Burns. She handed me my keycard for Room 215...
I liked these lights. Light off...
Light on! Simple things amuse me.
Saggy always gets the puffy chair.
My view.
It was a really nice room; probably the best Super 8 room I'd had so far. What was best was the smaller bed--a queen. I had been sleeping in kings and they were just too big...
Preshower. Not real purdy.
After showering I got to work, planning to publish two posts. But after the first one, I was drawn to that bed. Just a little nap, right? It was 2:00 p.m. When I woke it was 8:00 p.m.! I didn't even want to get up. I could have slept the rest of the night. I can't tell you how unusual sleeping is for me. Oversleeping all week? Taking a six hour nap. Fay says that I'm probably just generally exhausted. I'm beginning to agree with her.
I picked the correct night to be inside. Snow had turned over to rain, yet the temperature was right at 32° F, covering everything outside with a 1/4 inch of ice. I would have been so incredibly miserable in the tent...
Rain-stars. Looks like a globular cluster.
I worked until 3:00 a.m. on the next post, but was not able to publish it--just wasn't ready yet. I returned to my queen bed and completely zonked out.
