A Living Magazine - Day 286 - Homecoming - Colonial Heights: Last Night of Normality and a Sandwich Delight

I awoke, a bit better rested. Repeatedly forcing myself not to put my shoulder under the pillow helped. But, the pillow still seemed too soft. I folded it and put it under my head. But it then seemed a bit too high for me. I think I'm going to experiment with the Japanese style, cylindrical pillow. And (as a good friend just informed me while writing this) a buckwheat husk filling seems to be just the kind of firmness that I'm looking for. I have no way to haul that kind of pillow around with me, but when I'm domesticated again (if that ever happens) I will surely give it a try.

This would be my last day and night in the hotel. Because of a very generous donor, I was able to stay one more night. Again, this will probably be even shorter than the last post, as not much occurred beside work and rest on this day.

The only pictures I have are of my construction of a super-sandwich (perhaps I'm focused on food today, because I write this with nothing in my belly)...

I added the second half of an avocado to the remainder of
the pine nut hummus and mixed it up well.

Then I threw in some chopped baby carrots.

Mixed it all up.

I'd bought some thinly sliced ham and laid that across another French wheat bun.

Then I smeared a thick layer of my mixture on it.

Next came some cheddar and pepperjack cheese.

Tomatoes joined the sandwich family, along with the rest of the mixture.

Aha! The finished creation. This sandwich was absolutely delicious!
I never use extra salt; not for health reasons, but because
I like to taste the natural flavors of the other ingredients.

Not sure anyone else would like this combination of ingredients, but they really did or me. I don't truly prefer the cheeses I used. There are better ones (gruyere and brie being my favorites). But, hey, what can I say? I was very thankful just to do some things that "normal" people do: go grocery shopping, prepare my own food, etc.

On this night, I went to bed relatively early in an attempt to get used to waking up early again. It was always strange for me to think that I would be sleeping in the woods again for the foreseeable future. For some reason the normal trepidation of facing another long distance leg was not present on this last night of comfort. I went to bed and tried as hard as I could to follow my no-arm-under-the-pillow method.
