It was still dark out as I made my way back downtown...
Meats curing.
The predawn view from Dearborne.
Outside Vulcan Inc.
Near Vulcan Inc there was a Starbuck's (and on every other street too, of course!). So, I stopped in to have a coffee until I could check in at the Marriott. Time went quickly and at about 9:30 am, I figured I'd look into whether I could do an early check in.
I walked down 2nd Street until I reached the Marriott Courtyard Hotel. Walking through the double glass doors, I was in the lobby alone. The woman behind the desk welcomed me warmly. I told her a friend had reserved a room for me and gave her the confirmation number. She got me all set up with Room 212 and said I could go up right away. This was nice - to have more than 24 hours with a room - and I was glad I hadn't checked in the night before. Here are some views from window and of the room...
I had big plans for getting some photos of the city and getting my posts up for the day. I figured I could go out later and take pictures, and thus began to write. As happens about mid-morning sometimes, I began to get sleepy and started nodding. So, I decided to wake myself up and went to get a sandwich at Subway to bring back. This worked for a little while, but around 4:00 pm I began to get tired again. I thought that maybe I could lie down for a while, take a nap for an hour or so and be refreshed. So I sat on the bed. Yet, the moment I touched that soft cloud of sleepy goodness, I was out cold.
When my eyes opened the lights were on outside the window and I got that confused-because-I-overslept feeling. It was 8:30 pm! Pictures weren't going to happen, because my camera won't do night shots unless it is absolutely still. It just wasn't practical. Therefore, once I shook of the sleepies, I got back to work. The writing went slowly. I didn't finish the second post until about 2:30 am.
It turned out to be a relatively unproductive day, but a relaxing one. I had the nap and that made up for staying up late, but still I really wanted to get a good amount of sleep before leaving in the morning. I turned in and slept better than I had in weeks.
