I slept in until 7:00 am. The spot really was nice. Very Private...
Good level ground.
My view from the sleeping place.
I wanted to take more pictures of the graffiti and views I walked by each day...
Very distinctive, corky bark on the white pines.
There were some professional paintings too. One wonders if they
covered old graffiti. But, they haven't been tagged yet.
Professional artist. Just painted this year.
The blue in the painting matches the sky almost perfectly.
More from the art along the sides of bridges...
I like the little happy ladybug.
I got to Starbuck's and worked on my post until it was published. The town was astir with activity. I could hear a band playing down by the river. All the booths were set up for "Pig Out in the Park". I had the urge to explore...
I walked down by the pond where I'd seen geese the day before...
I love this chalked message.
They may look a bit awkward walking, but geese are very graceful swimmers.
The ducks hang out with the geese, but each species keeps to itself.
They swim and walk very close to each other, but simply don't interact.
The grass that the geese feed on is very short (on the order of about a 1/2 inch tall) when they gotten done with it, like a golf course. Might be a good way to keep a lawn mowed? The only thing is that they do a lot of pooping too...
Goose poop. (I think that would be a great name for a Spokane punk band.)
The camera showed weak battery power. I was sure I had extra batteries, but when I looked around in the backpack I found nothing. I also thought I had my back-up camera, but while searching for it, I remembered that I'd checked it out in Portland, found the screen cracked and threw it out. It looked like it was going to be a busy music night, and I wanted to take some pictures.
I heard a bigger sound over by the clocktower, than the two small stages near the entrance to the park were putting out. So I followed my ears and found a large stage set up for the bigger acts. I even caught a sound check...
Clocktower stage.
The big stage was a all set up and ready for Too Slim and the Tail Draggers to perform at 8:30 pm. I planned to see them. But, in the meantime, I ventured back to the other smaller stage, because someone was cranking away on a the Guns and Roses tune, "Sweet Child of Mine". The singing sounded a bit too high to be a man. But, it took me a while to get over there, because I was distracted by a bagpipe and Scottish dancer...
The band, Kosmik Dreamzz, has both a rock act and "The Janis Project". Monica, the singer, had the attitude and lungs to do Janis and a whole range of other music...

KOSMIK DREAMZZ...
2. Free Ride
4. Barracuda
When Kosmik Dreamzz had utterly spent the crowd, who loved every note, it was time to go see Too Slim at the big stage. The crown was abuzz with anticipation for these home town heroes, who'd just come back from Nashville after recording their album. I really enjoyed their energy, though I thought the bass player seemed a bit out of it. He had some pretty boring bass parts, so I guess he could be forgiven.
The other thing about these guys was that, though Slim had some great hard country rock guitar licks and slide work, the act was really all about him. That was fine, but the tunes were so similar sounding and he was allowed to just riff away so many times, that ten minutes into each tune I found myself just waiting for the next one. Great band though, and the crowd really dug them. The second recording below was of a song apparently used during the campaign to legalize cannabis. He asked the crowd what they thought about the success of the law--and they went nuts. Then he asked how many people were stoned, by show of hands. A few tentative hands went up, but this is still a brand new world of freedom on this issue, and people are are bit reluctant to "out" themselves. See what you think of the music...

TOO SLIM AND THE TAIL DRAGGERS...
It was really late when Too Slim finished - about 10:30 - I had not been down the new trail to the second sleeping place in the dark yet, and hoped it would be easy.
The crowd was dispersing and I scooted around the edges to get back to Lincoln, then down Third, to Sunset Boulevard. But this time I took the road down to the end of the creek park trail, crossed the bridge and headed down the dirt road, until I saw another smaller road off to the right. I took it down a small hill and found myself right where I needed to be. The spot was easy to find again. I got everything down and climbed in to the sleeping bag for another good night of sleep.
Thanks, Ede! It would be cool to see it extended all the way up the column (might make it practically disappear).
